Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was promoted to Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell travelled with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss issues like that of the Iran Contra controversy.
